All about whey protein concentrate

You are standing in your local health food store; glasses perched on your nose, trying to read the tiny print on all of those containers of protein supplement powders. You keep seeing the words 'whey protein concentrate' and 'whey protein isolate.' You are getting a headache. Is it the whey protein isolate that you need, or the whey protein concentrate, and what about the powders that seems to have both? First, let's note the difference between whey protein concentrate and whey protein isolate. Whey protein isolate is the purest form of whey protein. It also has the least amount of fat and lactose. Whey protein concentrate, of course, is the exact opposite. It has less actual whey protein, and more fat and lactose. You will immediately reach for the whey protein isolate powder…if you can find one among these hundreds of powders. You will also immediately notice a great price difference. Before you pay that higher price though, there are some things to consider. You naturally assume that the whey protein isolate is better than the whey protein concentrate, because it is purer. Theoretically, this is correct. But you also need to hear some first person accounts on the results of the two different whey protein products. Believe it or not, most bodybuilders will go with a protein supplement powder that has a combination of whey protein isolate and whey protein concentrate. Most will choose the one that has a higher level of whey protein concentrate than the whey protein isolate. If whey protein isolate is better, however, why would they do this? They choose this type of product because they have tried the pure whey protein isolate products, and paid that extra money for the pure product, only to find that the results were about the same. Now, note that the results are not the same if you use a whey protein concentrate that does not also contain whey protein isolate. But if there is a combination of whey protein concentrate with the whey protein isolate, you will still get good results, and you can pocket that extra money. With that said, however....Find out more by visting the site..

Free radicals the enemy within

Free radicals are unstable molecules within the body that attack and destroy benign cells making the body vulnerable to disease. They destroy the biochemical processes within cells and compromise the immune system which makes the body vulnerable to disease. Free radicals are also known as oxidants and to neutralize them you need to take AntiOxidants. Antioxidants can be categorized as a) water-soluble or b) fat-soluble and divided according to source of origin. Within the body a) Superoxide dimutase (SOD) - prevents the damage caused by the toxic oxygen molecule known as superoxide. b) Glutathione - is an amino acid which is converted by our bodies into glutathione peroxidase, a powerful antioxidant. Glutathione is a major cellular cleanser and a free radical scavenger. It detoxifies heavy metals and defends against damage from smoking, radiation and chemotherapy. External Vitamin A - vitamin A and its precursor beta carotene are powerful free radical scavengers. Vitamin C - it has been proven time and time again that vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant. Vitamin C combined with bioflavonoid becomes even more potent. It also enhances the immune system and may recycle other antioxidants like vitamin E. Vitamin E - is a powerful antioxidant as well, and prevents oxidation of lipids(oxidized LDL is responsible for hardening of arteries). It also improves oxygen utilization, enhances immunity, may be useful in preventing cataracts caused by free radicals and has a protective effect on the heart. Minerals Selenium - acts synergistically with vitamin E and may also increase vitamin E uptake. Zinc - has antioxidant properties and is a constituent of superoxide dimutase (SOD). It may help keep vitamin E levels in blood and aid in absorption of vitamin A. Semi essential antioxidants CoQ10 - is an antioxidant that may play an important role in generation of cellular energy, immune system stimulation and also play a role in certain cardiovascular conditions. It may exert its' antioxidant effect by scavenging single oxygen. Alphalipoic acid - may enhance the functioning of vitamin E, vitamin C and glutathione. It is both water-soluble and fat soluble therefore is also known as the "universal antioxidant". Lutein - is found in vegetables like spinach and kale. It promotes long-term eye health in two ways. Lutein protects the eyes from damaging effects of the sun and as an antioxidant it protects the eyes from free radical damage and premature aging. The human body is unable to manufacture lutein, so the body must rely on lutein rich foods and supplements. DHEA - is also called the "mother hormone", because it is the raw material for most steroid hormones produced in the body. It acts as an antioxidant and may be effective in preventing premature aging and stress. Melatonin - may provide special protection to the nucleus within a cell, that contains DNA. It may stimulate the enzyme glutathione peroxidase. Also, used as a sleep aid. To sum up: Regular antioxidant intake may contribute to a longer and healthier life. Antioxidants like superoxide dimutase(SOD) may also protect against hearing loss. Vitamins A, C,E and melatonin may reduce age related degenerative diseases and slow the aging process.

What are steroids

You might be wondering that the question what are steroids? doesn’t make sense in this Steroid Era. There is nothing to wonder about it. There are still a large number of people who really don’t know the answer of what are steroids? Steroids are one of the most popular drugs of modern times, but there are lots of people who are yet to get the answer of what are steroids? These days, what are steroids? is one of the most sought after questions online. Most of the internet users are making searches for what are steroids? Actually, the recent controversies about steroids have really made people look for what are steroids? Undoubtedly, steroids are popular, but they are one of the most controversial drugs of modern times. Steroids are the synthetic hormones derived from testosterone, the hormone responsible for growth and maturity. Steroids that have anabolic and androgenic properties are known as anabolic steroids. Medically, anabolic steroids are often used to treat the conditions that occur due to abnormally low amounts of testosterone production in the body; some of the conditions include delayed puberty and some types of impotence. Anabolic steroids are also used treat uncontrolled weight loss in wasting diseases, such as AIDS and other diseases that result in loss of lean muscle mass. Anabolic steroids work as great dietary supplements during old age. According to Dr. Alan Mintz, the founder of the Las Vegas-based Cenegenics Medical Institute, steroids are wonderful medicines; they help people live healthy life in later years. There's a tremendous benefit, if these are used in the right way. However, anabolic steroids are often used by bodybuilders, weightlifters, athletes, and other sports persons to enhance their performance levels, power, and stamina. Steroids are also used by young boys and girls for cosmetic reasons. However, any of such uses of steroids is steroid abuse that has serious side effects. Some of the common side effects of steroids may include wooziness, early loss of hair, sleeping troubles, nausea, depression, mood changes, joint pain, hallucinations, paranoia, urination problems, yellow fever, stroke, increased risk of heart disease, trembling, high levels of blood pressure, and increased chance of injuring muscles and tendons. Some of the serious consequences associated with the side effects of steroids may include aggressiveness, depression, anxiety and uncontrolled bouts of anger. Steroid abuse or over doses may also cause serious affects on male & female reproductive systems, which may include testicular shrinkage, powerlessness, hair loss, sterility, development of breasts or nipples, urinary problems, increased size of prostate gland and reduced sperm count in males, and development of male features, increased facial hair growth, breast shrinkage and increased size of the clitoris in females.

Shooting and dribbling your way to good health

In 1891, a Canadian physical education instructor named James Naismith faced a dilemma about continuing a sports program and having to do it indoors. At that time, most sports were held outdoors or in a wide, open field. It was the middle of winter and Naismith only had limited space to use to continue is P. E. classes. To solve his problem, Naismith created a game for the students that focused on the use of skills and not merely the utilization of physical strength. He called this invention --- basketball. Initially, players were made to dribble a soccer ball up and down a court and points were earned by shooting the ball into a basket. Naismith later developed the game by forming two teams of five active players each who tried to outscore each other by shooting the ball through a 10-feet high hoop or goal. The team with more points at the end of the game wins. Through time, basketball was developed into a sport with standardized and specialized skills. Today, basketball is one of the most popular sports in the entire world. Its inclusion in the 1936 Olympics and the formation of the National Basketball Association (NBA) in 1949 further boosted its popularity. The NBA, as the world's premier basketball league, gave rise to many superstar athletes. Basketball fans were glued to their t. v. sets as they watched these athletes perform acrobatic and high-flying moves across the court. Traditionally, basketball has been a “male-dominated” sport. It was only in 1976 that women's basketball was recognized as an Olympic sport. By 1996, more opportunities for female ball players opened up with the formation of the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) as a counterpart to the NBA. In 2006, the WNBA became the first team-oriented women's professional sports league that existed for 10 consecutive seasons. Women like Lisa Leslie, Sheryl Swoops, and Rebecca Lobo are now enjoying the limelight that was once enjoyed by Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Since its creation in 1891, the sport has already passed through several evolutions as a serious sports event. Aside from attaining its stature as a top-grossing sports and entertainment feature, it is also enjoyed by millions of amateurs and ordinary people who prefer a game that makes them sweat and have fun at the same time. As a sport, basketball provides a balance in terms of skills development, aerobic exercise, and competitiveness. Participating in physical activities like basketball is beneficial to children, adolescents, and adults. Regular physical activity contributes to overall health and may aid in weight loss. Studies show that regular physical activity has the potential to promote enhanced self-esteem and reduce the symptoms of stress and anxiety in children, adolescents, and adults with emotional disorders. People who partake in physical activities excrete substances called endorphins. These endogenous morphins, or endorphins, are the body's natural pain-killer. Endorphins are released when a person's physical activity has reached a moderate and high. These substances gives a moments of relaxation, which some health experts call the “runner's high.” Endorphins make people 'high' and happy. Research show that people who exercise regularly have more energy and better self-esteem compared to their inactive counterparts. People can improve their health and quality of life by picking a physical activity like basketball as a part of their lives. Being physically active early in life may bring many physical, social, and emotional benefits and may lead to good health.

The birth control working process

The wonder that is birth control, specifically the pill, is something that usually ends up being taken for granted. While most would simply choose to ignore the science behind it rather than understand how it works, every woman who takes a birth control pill should understand that there could be consequences to using the drug. These consequences often lie deep in the heart of how the medication functions, in how your typical birth control medication actually achieves its stated goal of preventing pregnancy. Having an idea of how the typical birth control pill works can go a long way to helping a person understand the risks involved in the use of such drugs. The story behind how birth control medication works starts in the 1930s, when it was discovered that injecting progesterone was effective in preventing the onset of pregnancy. Progesterone, a hormone naturally produced by the body, is generally more prevalent in females than in males. Synthesizing the hormone was conducted, with the synthetic version of the chemical proving to be just as effective as the real thing. Research was later conducted into finding out whether or not the body can be induced to produce more of the hormone via introducing external chemicals. Estrogen was later found to have similar effects to progesterone, leading to tests that mirrored the ones conducted for progesterone. Both hormones, and their effect on ovulation, formed the basis of the modern contraceptive pill. The pills work by deceiving the body, forcing it to believe (thanks to hormonal signals induced by the pills) that the woman is already pregnant. Since the ovaries do not release egg cells if the female is already pregnant, this has the effect of preventing conception. Progesterone and estrogen levels are known to be at their highest during pregnancy, so an increase in one or the other would usually be enough to fool the body's physiology into thinking it is pregnant. Other hormones may be substituted by some other medications, oestrogen is a prominent example, but the two aforementioned hormones are the most commonly cited ones. Another effect produced by certain birth control pills is inhibiting Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH) and Luteotrophic Hormone (LH). These two hormones are known to cause the ovaries to release the egg cell into the body and have a role in the ovulation cycle. By preventing the body from producing them, an effect similar to high levels of progesterone or estrogen is achieved. The effectiveness of the two tactics is essentially equivalent to one another, though there are some drawbacks to such tactics.

Rheumatoid arthritis and tramadol side effects

Rheumatoid arthritis is considered one of the most debilitating chronic diseases known to man. To the relief of millions of arthritics around the world, it is not a fatal illness. However, those who are afflicted with this condition have been found to have a shorter life expectancy than people without the disease. The reason for this is their increased risk for other serious conditions such as heart disease, respiratory problems, renal disease, and infections. Over the years, advances in medicine have brought great hope for the millions of people suffering from rheumatoid arthritis. Medications sold today are more effective against a wide range of viral and bacterial infections, inflammations, and other ailments. And there are more of them, each working in a slightly different way. So if one drug doesn't help a patient, there are other options to consider. The more options there are, the better it is for the patient. More people are treated more aggressively and the diseases are getting under control as quickly as possible. However, it is important to realize that most drugs sold in the market also have side effects. Every person reacts to a drug slightly differently from the others. A certain drug might work perfectly for one person while producing adverse side effects on another user. Take the case of Tramadol, a medication used to relieve moderate pain. It is similar to narcotic pain medications. It works on certain nerves in the brain that control how you experience pain. Medications like Tramadol help control pain, swelling, and prevent damage to joints. Disease-modifiying medications such as DMARDs (disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs) and TNF blockers can do more than just keep you from being disabled. These can even stop the disease in its tracks and may add years to your life. Some of the known tramadol side effects include nausea, vomiting, lightheadedness, dizziness, drowsiness, headache, overall physical weakness, and constipation. To control the effects of constipation, a patient using DMARDs should eat food that is rich in fiber. Drinking plenty of water and doing regular physical exercise would also help prevent constipation. People who regularly take Tramadol are advised to start using a laxative right away instead of waiting until one becomes constipated. Consulting a pharmacist regarding the correct use of laxatives is also advised. Doctors prescribe this medication because the benefits that come with the use of the said drug outweigh the risk of having tramadol side effects. Most people who use this medication do not experience serious side effects. Inform your doctor immediately if any of these unlikely but serious tramadol side effects occur: mental/mood changes, unusual or extreme stiffness in the muscles, shaking (tremor), severe stomach/abdominal pain, change in the amount of urine, and impairment of vision. Other rare but very serious tramadol side effects include slow or shallow breathing, seizures, and fever or flu-like symptoms. A very serious allergic reaction to this drug, which may occur as early as the first dose, is rare. However, patients are advised to seek immediate medical attention if these symptoms develop: rash, itching, swelling especially of the lips, tongue, or throat, severe dizziness, and trouble breathing. Several major studies have documented the dramatic benefits of early treatment with rheumatoid arthritis medication. As soon as a diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis is made, something can usually be done with confidence. “It's never too early, and never too late -- there's plenty of data that even treating late does help, so don't despair if you didn't receive early treatment,” says Theodore R. Fields, MD, FACP, clinical director of the Gosden-Robinson Early Arthritis Center at New York's Hospital for Special Surgery.

When passion for fashion is a health menace

You will never understand up to what extent women are willing to do for the sake of beauty. They will brave undergoing through the knife for the purpose of cosmetic surgery. The risk-taking involved is a case of the end justifying the means. However, a new concept of suffering for passion does not follow the same argument. Suffering for fashion is not just about the perils that being eternally stylish can pose to your bank accounts, but about the damage that your passion for fashion could be doing to your health. Talk about low back pain and spine fractures which can be severely disabling and may result in chronic pain. And that is exactly what those supersized killer bags fashion on-the-loose are doing to a woman's body. Those supersized handbags could be as potentially dangerous to your health as upsizing your favorite fastfood value meals. The recent increase in the number of “heavy handbag related injuries” prompted chiropractors to seriously consider issuing a medical warning on the use of these huge totes. These fashionable bags on the hot seat are not just painfully heavy, draped and bedecked with more blings than Apl. de Ap of the Black Eyed Peas, and that their capacity is so enormous there could be enough rooms for the whole vanity dresser to fit inside. These bags allow users to fill them with endless amounts of stuff that are not really necessary. According to a recent study, women today carry twice as much in their handbags as our mothers used to do. In the good old days, our moms might have had a coin purse, a powder compact, a couple of tissues and a house key. Today's women can be seen carrying a whopping great wallet/diary/address book Filofax affair, an entire make-up bag and a bottle of water, plus great bunches of keys for the house, the office and the car. And that's before we get to all the gadgets and gizmos - MP3 players, mobile phones, laptops etc. Social anthropologist, Kate Fox, of the Social Issues Research Center in Oxford, believes that a woman's love for large luggage is not just about fashion. It's about making an impression. “Larger women generally prefer to carry a big bag as it makes their bum look smaller in comparison. And, the fashionably petite like to emphasize their size zero status by carrying an outsize bag.” It's okay to drag handbags the size of houses if you are a celebrity with all the bodyguards to help you carry the load once you're done showing off. “The problem with carrying a heavy bag is that while it may not cause you an injury at the time you carry it, over time it has a cumulative effect, and we're certainly seeing more instances of back pain triggered as a result,” says Tim Hutchful of the British Chiropractic Association. Carrying a heavy bag over one shoulder can cause your body to shift stance as you hike the shoulder up, which can shorten the muscles that result in a twisted or lop-sided body position overtime. This may later on lead to serious back pain, and worse, a neck injury by stretching the nerves, or even a spine fracture. Avoid carrying bag in the crook of your arm as it is farther away from your center of gravity, putting more strain on the body. When you hold something at arm's length, the pressure it puts on the body is five times greater than if you were carrying it close to your chest. Whether you are a certified “fashionista,” a working mother, or a plain Jane, always remember to carry a bag that is big enough to carry only the essential stuffs that you cannot do without. “Health is wealth” is a better motto to live by, while passion for fashion can be a health menace.

Are you in bed with 8 legged freaks

They are tiny. They are dirty. There are probably thousands if not millions of them in bed with you every night!! They are called dust mites and if you suffer from asthma or allergies, they make your symptoms even worse. So whether you have an adjustable bed or a regular bed, these little critters are nothing but a nuisance. Dust mites make their home in mattresses, pillows, blankets, quilts, carpets and fabric covered furniture, thrive in the summer and usually die in the winter. They may continue to thrive in the winter if your house is warm and humid. The bedroom is an area that has an environment that the dust mite loves. An adjustable bed, or any bed for that matter, can contain hundreds of thousands of them and an old pillow can have 20% of its own weight made up of dust mites, dead and alive, and dust mite droppings. But mainly their droppings. Kind of makes you look at your bed a little differently tonight. Why do they love to get in bed with us ? Because most animals, including humans shed skin flakes every year. We all naturally lose skin, head and pubic hairs by the thousands every year. A household of four normal adults shed over three pounds in weight of skin flakes annually. Over 80% of the dust particles floating in the air and settling on your furniture is made up of dead skin cells. Since dust mites eat dead skin cells, our beds are like an all you can eat for free smorgasbord. Dust mites are related to the Spider and they have eight legs, but no eyes and no antennae . Female mites lay between 40 and 80 eggs in a lifetime which lasts up to seven weeks. The good news is that they are tiny. Just a gram of dust may contain up to 5,000 mites, and an ounce of dust may host 150,000. You just cannot see them crawling about, but they are there. How do you Control Dust Mites ? *Pesticides are not approved for control of house dust mites because they can damage to you as much as them. *Replace feather and down pillows with synthetic fillings. * Enclose the mattress top and sides with a special synthetic cover. *Vacuum your mattress thoroughly especially the base and head of the bed. *Keep the mattress as dry as possible; dust mites like it damp, especially with sweat. * Change and wash pillowcases, sheets, and under blankets regularly. *Vacuum the bed base and around the covered mattress weekly. *Wash all bedding frequently in hot water (60oC weekly). Wash curtains regularly as well. *A dehumidifier helps because house mites need high humidity to live and grow *Throw the bed-clothes back and open the windows wide, to have a good blow through. When you make your bed, you cover up the little critters and make them feel, well, as snug as a bug in a bed. Where Children Sleep * Keep toys that will accumulate dust out of the child’s bedroom * Avoid stuffed toys * Use only washable toys of wood, rubber, metal, or plastic * Store toys in a closed toy box or chest * Avoid upholstered furniture and blinds. * Use only a wooden or metal chair that you can scrub. * Use only plain, lightweight curtains on the windows. Good luck on getting these little creepy crawlies out of your life. The last thing you want to get in bed with are eight legged freaks.

Ways to boost anxiety treatment

Seeking treatment for anxiety is always a smart move. But, complementing treatment with other methods can increase the chances of success for anxiety treatment significantly. Below are several methods and techniques that can be used to complement and boost treatment for anxiety: Information Understanding anxiety is the first step to a successful treatment. Asking your doctor, listening to seminars, and researching about anxiety can help you get informed about your condition. The better you understand your condition, the more you will be cooperative about the treatment procedure. Researching and studying about anxiety can also help you understand what your mind and body are going through. Cognitive therapy Your thinking patterns or mentality can affect the way you accept treatment or deal with your anxiety. Cognitive therapy helps you modify your thinking and perception of things into a more positive aspect. Diet adjustment Consumption of red meat has been found to increase the production of stress hormones in the body which trigger anxiety attacks. If you are prone to anxiety attacks, switching to a more vegetable-dense diet is more beneficial. Fruits and produce encourage your body's production of feel-good hormones that are necessary into boosting your sense of well-being. Behavior therapy This type of therapy primarily concentrates on desensitizing you from your fears by means of confrontation. By means of gradual exposure to situations or objects that cause you to feel anxious, you are able to manage your anxiety and ultimately, lose your fear. For example, if you get anxious about public speaking, behavior therapy will let you talk to a gradually increasing number of persons until you get comfortable with the situation. Exercise Endorphins or feel-good hormones are released in the body through exercise. This reduces stress levels and improves your mood. Exercise is also an effective way of anxiety symptom management and coping technique. Correct breathing techniques Keeping stress and anxiety at bay largely relies on minimizing symptoms that often include palpitations and shortness of breath. By learning correct breathing techniques, you can effectively minimize these symptoms and feel more in control of the situation. Communication Anxiety inhibits you from articulating the cause of your fear or worry. By learning how to effectively communicate your fears, you can analyze them objectively. Also, effective communication between you and your doctor guarantees a more comfortable working relationship. Confidence boost Anxiety is often rooted in people's belief that they are not good enough for other people. They see themselves as inferior to others which can worsen their condition. You can boost your confidence by learning a new hobby, improving on something you are good at, or taking personality improvement classes. These are just some of the many techniques or methods you can use to complement and supplement your anxiety treatment. Talk to your doctor about these methods and how they can benefit you. Discuss your options and find out which complementary therapy suits you best. Anxiety cannot be treated by medication alone. To recover fully, remember to take a pro-active role in your treatment.

Eye protection should be a slam dunk

A quick-thinking tournament doctor put in a call to an ophthalmologist following the gruesome collision between Villanova's Allan Ray and a Pittsburgh player, and that call may have saved Ray's sight. The collision occurred during the March 10 Big East tournament game. "This young man is very fortunate, as he could have suffered a permanent, basketball-career-ending injury," said John Stechschulte, M. D., Assistant Clinical Professor, Ohio State University and American Academy of Ophthalmology member. Ophthalmologists agree that many sports eye injuries could be avoided simply by wearing protective eyewear. Athletes can now choose from various types of sturdy, lightweight and effective eyewear. With polycarbonate lenses and a proper fitting by an eye care professional, eyewear does not hinder performance and can prevent 90 percent of sports eye injuries. However, various sports require different types of protective eyewear, and members of the eye health care team can help athletes choose the eyewear appropriate for their sport. "Fortunately, our nation's ophthalmologists, as demonstrated by the Eye M. D. who saved the player's sight, have the skills and the training to treat patients to minimize the amount of permanent vision loss-or get the athlete back on the playing field," said Dr. Stechschulte. "Prevention could be the most important step in preserving eyesight and keeping athletes in the game." Todd Baker, Executive Director of the Ohio State Ophthalmological Society and Director of Ohio's "Play Hard. Don't Blink" Program, adds, "We have been working with little league and softball teams for the last five years to make eye protection part of their standard equipment requirement and will be doing the same with youth basketball teams this year. We need to move toward making protective eyewear part of the sports culture, rather than waiting for cases of serious injuries to impact our habits." The Academy is the world's largest association of eye physicians and surgeons-Eye M. D.s-with more than 27,000 members worldwide. Eye health care is provided by the three "O's"-opticians, optometrists and ophthalmologists. It is the ophthalmologist, or Eye M. D., who can treat it all-eye diseases and injuries-and perform eye surgery.

Virgin coconut oil for relief of chronic fatigue

For centuries, coconut oil has been considered a vital source of food for health and general well-being. In tropical countries where coconut palm trees abound, locals have long been benefitting from this so called “Tree of Life”. Research shows that virgin coconut oil, like mother's milk, is rich in lauric acid which is known for its antiviral, antibacterial, antimicrobial, and antiprotozoal properties needed for good health and well-being. Like all things pure and natural, the virgin coconut oil is extracted from fresh coconuts unlike other commercial grade oil which came from dried coconut meat of copra. Virgin coconut oil has an important role in finding cure and remedy for many of the illnesses brought upon by unhealthy lifestyle and the refined diet of modern living. According to research, coconut oil has the highest source of saturated fats and medium chain fatty acids which is necessary to increase metabolism and are more easily digested than fats found in other oils. And because the medium chain fatty acids in coconut oil are absorbed quickly by the tissues and converted into energy, people suffering from chronic fatigue would gain a great deal of benefit when they take coconut oil in their diet. Chronic Fatigue Syndrome used to be considered as an imaginary ailment. But nowadays, it has been affecting women between 30's and 50's and has become a problem of growing concerns among 3 million Americans and 90 million people worldwide. Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) is a condition characterized by prolonged and extreme tiredness that is not relieved by rest and is not directly caused by other medical conditions. Such fatigue is so severe that it keeps one from getting involve in regular activities. Thus, CFS may cause possible social isolation as well as lifestyle restrictions. Researchers are still in a quandary as to the cause of this condition. However, some quarters suspect that it could be caused by a virus called Epstein-Barr or human herpes virus-6 (HHV-6), though no definite viral cause has been identified. According to research, CFS may be caused by inflammation of pathways in the nervous system. This inflammation seems to act as immune response. CFS may develop when a viral disease is complicated by a problem with the body's immune response. Different factors such as age, prior illness, stress, environment, or genetics may also play a role. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) describes Chronic Fatigue Syndrome as a distinct disorder with specific symptoms and physical signs, based on ruling out other possible causes. The number of persons with CFS is unknown. Symptoms of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome may be similar to those of common viral infections such as muscle aches, headache, and fatigue often developing within a few hours or days and lasting for six months or more. Main symptoms: · Fatigue or tiredness – a kind of exhaustion that has never been experienced before by the patient to this extent before (new onset) which lasts for at least six months and not relieved by bed rest · Fatigue that is so severe it restricts activity (serious fatigue develops with less than one-half of the exertion compared to before the illness) Other symptoms: · Fatigue lasting more than 24 hours after an amount of exercise that would normally be easily tolerated · Mild fever (101 degrees F or less) · Sore throat · Lymph node tenderness in the neck or armpit · muscle weakness all over or multiple locations, not explained by any known disorder · Muscle aches also known as myalgas · Feeling unrefreshed after sleeping an adequate amount of time · Headaches, different from previous headaches in quality, severity, or pattern · Joint pain, often moving from joint to joint (migratory arthralgias), without joint swelling or redness · Forgetfulness or other similar symptoms including difficulty concentrating, confusion, or irritability Once you experience persistent, extreme fatigue, with or without other symptoms of this disorder, contact your professional health care provider. Other more serious disorders can cause similar symptoms and should be ruled out. With coconut oil now considered as a functional food, modern medicine is looking at it as a powerful tool against disease of the immune system as well as chronic fatigue syndrome. Many research have been undertaken on its effectiveness, and further studies are currently underway on the outstanding nutritional value of coconut oil.

Fertility focused intercourse mission impossible

Copyright 2006 Majella. us When it comes to a discussion of human fertility, the saying “life is not fair” seems to have extraordinary significance. Couples who don’t want to get pregnant seem to be the ones that do and the ones that do—don’t. Nobody knows this better than the couples that desperately want children but fail to conceive, month-after-month. As the biological clock keeps on ticking, is there anything more that these couples can do? Absolutely! Having interviewed hundreds of couples who have meticulously documented the woman’s fertile days and the days on which intercourse occurred, it has become crystal clear that: (a) most couples think that they are doing a good job of having intercourse on all the right days, while (b) the vast majority are completely missing the boat! What is so difficult about Fertility Focused Intercourse? Let’s start with the basics of female fertility cycles. First, Women of normal fertility are not fertile very often. From a biologic perspective, the most fertile woman on the planet can only conceive between 5 and 6 days per menstrual cycle. A woman with reduced fertility might have significantly fewer days that are truly fertile, perhaps 2 or 3. According to simple mathematics, if there are only 3 days per month to conceive, that is only 36 days at the end of the year. Second, not all fertile days are created equal. Intercourse that occurs on “the day” of ovulation can be assumed to be the most fertile day of the menstrual cycle, but even then the probability of achieving a pregnancy is never 100%! When does ovulation occur? Frequently, ovulation occurs approximately 14 after the first day of the menstrual period. In a classic study by Vollman[1] of 14,848 menstrual cycles, ovulation as detected by a shift in basal body temperature occurred on exactly day 14 in only 1,591 cycles (10.7%). Thus the exception here is far more common then the rule. The 28-day normal menstrual cycle is simply a myth. The first step in fertility focused intercourse, therefore, is to do away with any notion of a calendar and to adopt a method of detecting when ovulation actually occurs. There are many ways to “detect” the day of ovulation such as monitoring LH and estrogen in the urine or checking for cervical mucus and changes in the basal body temperature (just to name a few). Unfortunately, however, there is no way to “observe” when ovulation actually occurs. No matter what method you are using, the margin of error is at least plus or minus 2 to 3 days (sometimes more). This means that if you rely on your favorite indicator of the day of ovulation to tell you when to have intercourse you may be missing the most important day to conceive on a regular basis. What is the best way to time intercourse? So what is the best advice? Unfortunately, healthcare providers frequently offer some of the worst information. For example, “we were told to have intercourse ‘every other day’ in order to ‘save sperm.’” “Have intercourse every month starting on day 6 for 12 consecutive days.” Or even worse, “because you do not know when the most fertile day is you would have to have intercourse every day to maximize your chances.” – nonsense! From this brief discussion, the best advice is: (a) choose a method of fertility monitoring that will give you a few days notice that ovulation is going to occur. This means monitoring estrogen levels directly or the effect of estrogen on saliva or cervical mucus. (b) When fertility begins, intercourse should occur daily until at least 2 days after ovulation is detected. Once released, the egg can only be fertilized during a narrow window of approximately 24-hours. You want to make sure that intercourse occurs on “the day” of ovulation in order to maximize your chances. Intercourse Patterns By now you have figured correctly that fertility focused intercourse is truly a “labor of love.” It is not easy! It might mean having intercourse as many as nine days in a row. Even among couples with the strongest convictions for attempting to achieve pregnancy a few fertile days always seem to be missed. Here are some helpful suggestions: 1. Plan in advance. If you were going to go on a fancy date with your spouse you would give a few days notice. If you know the fertile days are coming, then you likewise will have time to prepare for them. 2. Get your priorities straight. If the doctor scheduled a procedure to test some aspect of your fertility you might take a day off work. Furthermore, you would probably follow through even if you had a headache! Should you not subject yourself to similar inconveniences when your most fertile days arrive!? 3. Get professional help. Believe it or not, there are professionals who can help you make sense of all this and give you real good advice. The American Academy of Fertility Care Professionals is an excellent place to start. If you and your spouse have been having difficulty achieving a pregnancy, then just remember—knowledge is power. In this case, the right knowledge may even give you the power to procreate! You may as well consider the question of when to have sex to be the single most important issue. Why? Because there is no diagnostic medical procedure, test, or surgery that is going to make you pregnant. If you just had surgery to correct a fertility problem, for example, and you are not following these instructions you could very well be making out badly on your investment. Fertility focused intercourse may not be easy, but it is not mission impossible—it is mission responsible—and the responsibility falls upon both you and your spouse. Have fun! 1. Vollman, R.
